Verena glanced out the window of the town car admiring the architecture of Mantle. She was used to how Atlas looked, and it was a wonder to see how things could be so different due to a small distance and a few decades of time. She wasn't in Mantle to sight see however. Verena was in town on official Schnee business, along with her brother Whitely. With a delicate hand she pressed a button to close the partition between the driver and them.

"So Whitely, shall we go over the records of the next stop?" she said as she reached for a folder out of her satchel. She sat across from her brother allowing for the two of them to speak face to face. The two of them were out on father's orders to look into some of the Schnee Dust Company's holdings in Mantle. It was mostly just a matter of looking into records and an inspection to make sure everything was up to Schnee standards. They couldn't do anything, but their notes would go directly to their father.

"It shouldn't be too long of a stop. It's just a dust shop, and one of the smaller ones too. A quick look around and a glance at their books should be all we need to do. What do you think?"

Whitley was sitting there in the car a book in his hand has he flipped through the pages. It was not exactly where he wanted to be and with who at the moment. He had to sit there and do has he was commanded though, doing anything wrong at the moment would just be more chaotic than he would like to admit. A textbook from school so he wouldn’t have to hear Selena call him out for not studying, it was the least he could do.

”Hm.” He didn’t look up to her or even take notice of her pressing the button to put up the partition. He turned another page taking in the first paragraph of the page, before he truly looked up to her. ”Do you insist that we do this at every stop? “ He folded the corner of the page down gently and closed the book and sat it beside him. ”Very well then.”

He reached up and straightened his tie and smoothed out his vest and glanced out the window. He listened to her has she described it was one of the smaller ones this time around. ”Which means if their books are not kept up with in the next month or so father will close the shop down for under performance. Does it show the number of infractions reported on its last inspection?” It was not the first store he seen closed and probably wouldn’t be the last either. They had suffered a sufficiently blow when the communication went down and White Fang hitting their transport at every chance they were given. No doubt his father was scrambling to remain in control of the company.

He held his hand out for the folder. ”He assigned three or four stops today for us, if my scroll message was right that is.” He had at least turned off his scroll while in the car with her. He wanted to be rude and say nasty things to her, but he kept his cool and played a long for now. ”How is your team doing at Atlas?” Minor small talk. He took a deep breath to himself so he could stomach making talk with her. He still disapproved of her and what she was supposed to drive into him.

Bending the corner of a page to mark one's place set off a small battle in Verena's mind. One part of her logic dictated it was a suitable and efficient way to mark one's place, and another part of her logic told her that doing it too much would damages the aesthetic of the book. At least he didn't bend the spine. The book could still sit nice and neatly on a shelf so long as the spine and cover was intact. At least she knew he wasn't doing it specifically to annoy her.

"Yes I do." she replied as a matter of factly. "Father assigned us this task, and we should do our best to carry out these inspections to the best of our ability. We should know what we're getting into at every stop so we don't seem surprised or caught off guard. What if father, or mother, has asked a proprietor to contact them about our performance? I wouldn't want to disappoint." Her tone of voice was rather casual considering who she was talking about. One learned quick not to disappoint the Schnees, she had not.

Perhaps she had, but wasn't allowed to learn. Data could be edited, corrupted, and deleted so easily in this day and age.

"It does have a lit of prior infractions, but it isn't anything that would raise a red flag. Every store has their own way of doing things it seems, and small details fall to the wayside sometimes. There is a note saying that the owner was not present during the last inspection, and communications were left with their senior staff." Whitely had asked, but he didn't seem all that interested in an answer. She wanted to get along with him, but it seemed like she wasn't able to get along with any of her siblings.

Whitely surprised her by what he said next. He asked about her team. Verena perked up at the interest her brother was showing in her. Maybe there was hope yet. "Team Frostbite is doing well. As always Finola, our leader, is energetic and enthusiastic about making sure we're well trained. She wants to go into the military after she finishes the Academy."

He wasn’t exactly shocked to hear her answer to his question. He didn’t mind going over things to make sure everything was in order. Though he would prefer if he was left alone to look over the files and today that just was not the case than. He would have to annoy her somehow over this little business adventure. His interested perked up for a moment when she questioned what would happen if their parents wanted to hear their performance.

”Who to say these proprietors decides that our inspection went wary and tells them how badly we did out of spite? They could try and push the blame on us anyways. So we should be wary on all fronts today.” He said and glanced back out of the window for a moment has he seen a few buildings coming up. ”Yes, we both wouldn’t want to disappoint them I suppose.” He glanced back at her and looked to her for a moment. ”Are you capable of really understanding disappointment and what he would do in cases such has these?” His head tilted slightly out of curiosity of the matter at hand.

He nodded slightly about nothing major about the store coming up other than the owner was not there the last inspection. ”Does it say the inspector name by chance? ” He grabbed his scroll and turned it on. He wanted to check the data base of the list of inspectors his father had to see if he recognized any of the names. ”We will have to make sure that we see the owner today since they failed to be present at the last one. Everything will need to be combed over from their stocks to their books.”

He looked back up to her has she described her team leader. It sounded like Selena all over again. He just wasn’t sure what the girl wanted to do after their senior academy days or even if she wanted to go to Altas at all. ”Training is very important after all. It is understandable why your leader pushes for it. I suppose that is a noble goal one can have their mind on after graduation. What would you decide to do after graduation?”

He turned and watched the car pull into the city. He saw people walking around going about their business of all ages. Their lives seemed to much easier than this. ”We are nearly there.”

Did she know what their father could do? Of course she knew. Did he know what could be done to her? He could be admonished and grounded, though may receive some leniency due to his youth, and his mother. She, on the other hand, had been programmed rather extensively. The weight of a failure was heavier on her. As far as she knew she had never failed before, but if she had... would she remember?

"The name of the previous inspector is in the file." she responded. He had the folder, he could find the name. She wasn't going to do all the reading and feed him answers now. "You can leave the numbers to me. I'm pretty good with numbers." It would have been odd if she hadn't been good at math. She was a walking computer intended to take over a megacorporation some day. Numbers had to be her thing.

What came next was a bit of a surprise. Whitely asked what she wanted to do after graduation. Was it idle banter just to fill time, or was he actually taking an interest in her for a change? Either way this was a moment to bond. "I'm going to continue my education after Atlas and aim for degrees in business, corporate law, and Dust sciences. I'm sure I can do it if I work hard at it." After, or sometime during her higher education she intended to take interest in the family business. It would be up to their father to decide when that would be., Since Winter and Weiss abdicated their responsibilities it was all on the two of them to carry things on.

Whitley read the name of the employes on the file and glanced at her when she said he could leave the math to her. Pfft. That slightly annoyed him a bit. He knew she had to be good at numbers with being an android even he knew she could do math quickly enough without pencil and paper. His own grades in math was always ranked high among his own classmates. He had to learn tricks do math and spent hours studying on his own to be prepared for future lectures. To him failure was not an option and if he hoped to take over the family business he had to be good in math.

He showed no sign of disapproval at her comment and closed the file. He recognized the name on the file and a few meetings had talked about shutting this one down due to poor performance in sales. He handed the file back to her and glanced out the window has she talked about what she was planning to do after Atlas. Her choices and aims actually caught his attention. Business, corporate law, and even a bit of dust sciences.

”Doesn’t Atlas has a few courses you can already take for each of them? Father wants me to focus more on business at Atlas and I plan on making my schedule to incorporate some of the courses to finish off after graduation myself.” Their aim seems to be aligned for the most part, but he was not sure just how far he could trust her and everything thing else. He glanced at her for a moment. Perhaps he could use that metal brain of hers that was filled with circuits to his advantage? He would have to think more about this.

He felt the car slow down and come to a complete stop. They must be there. His hand went up to his tie and straightened it before stepping out of the car after the driver got out and opened the door. His hands went to flattened his vest as well and looked around for moment. The area was not one of the best places to have a company and he could understand why a place like this would fall under poor performance. ”Who approved this location?” There was a bit of a snared to his comment.
