  • About Us
World of Remnant is an AU, post-Volume 3 roleplay. Opened in February of 2016, World of Remnant diverges from the Volume 3 storyline around the Fall of Beacon, with storyline changes that drive our site in a different direction. We constantly update with new canons as they are revealed in the RWBY series, as well as lore updates as we learn more about Remnant's world. We boast an expanded lore and a dedicated administrative team that gives depth to Remnant for a roleplay perspective.

With an 18+ community, World of Remnant boasts an atmosphere of 'quality over quantity' in our apps, posts, and plots; we have no word count, though it is expected that members will post healthy and thorough posts without being locked down by the dreaded 'word count' of their post. With a simplified combat system that uses no stats, World of Remnant remains a story-focused, alternate-universe timeline with RWBY canons and a plethora of original characters.

06.07.2018: After much long and arduous work, World of Remnant has finally revealed its newest skin, called Let's Just Live. The new skin is part of a fresher, more advanced layout compared to our old layout, while still retaining the readability and contrast our other layouts were well-known for. There are three more skins planned for the next series: This Life Is Mine, featuring Weiss Schnee, Like Morning Follows Night featuring Blake, and Armed And Ready featuring Yang. We do not have any tentative release dates for these upcoming skins, but stay tuned for them regardless!

    Current Time
    Remnant's current month is
    SEPTEMBER, YEAR 3
The second term has begun at all academies, and after a short break between terms, students are gearing up to attend the 41st Vytal Festival. This year, it is hosted on the neutral island of Vytal, as opposed to being hosted in one of the four Kingdoms.

Rubine Mordant
Birthplace: Atlas

Age: 27

Sex & Gender: Male, Male

Race: Gyrfalcon Faunus

Affiliation: Graduated Huntsman

Physical Details:

Rubine has a rather athletic build, not bulked up but having very defined muscles though he is a bit short standing at 5'6''. His hair is a striking red, and his eyes a vibrant green. Sprouting from his back are two large brown-speckled white wings with a wingspan of 11.5 feet.

His typical attire is rather simple, an army green jacket over a black tank top and dark gray cargo pants paired with steel-toed combat boots. It's rare for his jacket to have no less than one full cigarette pack tucked into one of the pockets. He also wears a plain silver ring on his right hand that he had gotten as a gift from his parents when he graduated from Atlas. The only thing that gives it any hint of design are the engraved initials of his parents, his late brother, and his own.

Personality:

Rubine is a very kind soul, holding a strong and genuine interest in helping others. He puts a high value on the happiness of others, often at the cost of his own. He can be overly trusting as well, not liking to question those around him and choosing to blindly put faith in others unless given very good reason to be suspicious. He is an optimist when it comes to the affairs of others but is rather pessimistic towards himself. He has an inferiority complex, birthed from years of being seen as lesser than those around him.

Rubine has an addictive personality as well, often turning to his addictions in order to keep himself stable. He has already formed strong addictions to smoking and alcohol, though does his best to avoid other substances out of fear that he'll get hooked. These habits are both the cause and cure for his stress, withdrawal having noticeable side effects. Whenever under strenuous circumstances he will fall back on these vices to keep himself calm, though he is not happy about his reliance. This addictive personality also extends to interactions with others. While he hasn't had many friends, he can very quickly become attached to someone and appear very clingy which more often than not pushes others away.

History:

Rubine was born to a poorer family in Atlas. He was the second child in the family by a year to his older brother Cosmos. Being a Faunus in Atlas, he was subject to bullying as a child and only had his family to play with. He got along well with his brother and the two were very close growing up. Cosmos became sickly when Rubine was five, often being bedridden with some cold or other sicknesses. The medical expenses were taxing on their already low income, and with no other options left Rubine's father joined the military leaving his mother alone to care for them.

Rubine went largely unaware of the struggle his family was going through until the age of eleven when he was able to start piecing together some of what was going on around him. His parents didn't want him or his brother to be worried so they had never directly admitted to the position the family was in but there was always a heavy air in the house. Now that he was more aware of the struggle, Rubine made the decision to attend Helios when he was old enough. He wanted to make himself independent so his family wouldn't need to worry about him and would instead be able to focus on the problems at hand. He figured he could send some of his earnings to them as well once he graduated to help if they still needed it then.

At age 13, Rubine set off to attend Helios. He was greeted with disdain by the humans who attended, not that it was anything new by then and ended up with very few people he could interact with. There were a few other Faunus that he'd talk to, but they only really interacted because they were rather limited in their options. The group he ended up associating with weren't the healthiest to be around, many of them smuggling cigarettes and alcohol into the school to help cope with how things were. Rubine would decline their offers to try them as well, but he was always hesitant in his refusal.

The years at Helios were otherwise uneventful, many of the people he had interacted with got thrown out after getting caught, leaving Rubine with no one left to talk to and eventually he'd just seclude himself and either study or train. Upon graduating to Atlas, Rubine was forced into a team with three humans. The team was ZAFR (Zaffre). The team's atmosphere was tense as the rest of his team was less than happy to be put with a Faunus. The four years at Atlas weren't much different from the ones at Helios, largely spent secluded from others except for when he was made to do things with his team.

In his last year at Atlas, he received news that his brother had fallen into a much more severe sickness than was typical and that it was uncertain as to whether or not he'd make it through. It would only be a few days after that he received the call that his brother had passed on in the hospital. It was a huge shock to the system and in need of a way to cope his mind turned to the group he associated with back in Helios. He'd turn to alcohol, drowning out his sorrow in drinks. It wouldn't be long after that he picked up cigarettes, finding that they were rather calming.

Upon graduation, he parted ways with his team, them going off and picking up a different fourth member and him striking out on his own. He moved to vale, doing work solo and still sending some of his earnings back to his family despite them not really needing it anymore. It was the least he could do to help them attain a slightly better standard of living, He attempted to quit his drinking and smoking once he had better processed the grief of losing his brother, but it was only then that he noticed an addiction had formed. He had a naturally addictive personality, and despite his best efforts, he was never able to give up on the habits.

The fall of Beacon was an event that hit him hard. He hating seeing such pointless violence, especially since the Whitefang was involved. He had grown up knowing the discrimination they preached about, but he didn't agree with violence being the answer. He helped out in the aftermath as much as he could, helping with repairs and whatever else could be done.

The Faunus rights anniversary was a wonderful time for him, taking a break from job hunting and enjoying the festivities instead. It was nice to see such a powerful community and fellowship that he had never really felt before, and the event served to further his drive to help others around him.

Rubine Mordant
Affiliation: Solo Huntsman

Character Page: Here

Weapon:

Wings of Freedom

Rubine's primary weapon is a pack he wears on his back. The pack has metal wings that spread out to coat his wings, covering them entirely. While this negates his ability to fly as they weigh down his actual wings too much, it provides a great amount of cover and shielding. The edges of the metal wings are sharp, allowing for use as actual weapons rather than just defense.
Rubine also carries twin pistols at his hip in case he is in need of extra range. He typically uses multiuse standard ammunition cartridges, but he also has multiuse cartridges of fire and lightning dust, keeping two of each on his person when going on missions.

Semblance:

Reflection

Rubine is able to cause attacks to move towards him instead of others. Those he attunes his aura to are able to benefit from the semblance's effects. To attune his aura to another he needs to maintain physical contact with them for at least ten seconds and the person he's attuning too must be willing to be attuned to him. He can do this with any number of people and he can dismiss the attuning whenever he wants. Out of those he is attuned to, he can select one person at a time for the semblance to take effect on, though he is able to switch who has the effect over the course of one post where no one benefits from the semblance.
The semblance draws attacks that are able to reach him towards him if they would've hit someone he is attuned to. This is most often applicable with ranged weapons. If a shot is fired that would hit someone he is attuned to and the shot had enough momentum that it would be able to then move from the target to him, it does so. The bullet would bounce harmlessly off the target's body and fly directly to him.
While less likely to occur, this can also be applied in melee situations. If a melee attack that is directed at someone he is attuned to and the strike has enough momentum to reach him from when it would make contact with the target and Rubine is within the attacker's range, it would similarly bounce off the target harmlessly and become directed to him. This effect will never cause the weapon to fall out of the attacker's hand, nor will it make the attacker reach farther than they would've otherwise (if they were standing still, they wouldn't be forced to take a step or lunge, but if they were taking a step or lunging the redirected attack would account for those actions in determining the range).
The semblance remains dormant until the person protected by it is attacked, at which point it will activate for three posts. It has a three post cooldown after that, during which Rubine can switch targets, but once those three posts are complete it resumes dormancy until the protected ally is hit, repeating the cycle. Any attack will trigger the semblance, regardless of whether or not Rubine is aware of it, but this can cause him to bite off more than he can chew. If he dismisses the attunement while the semblance is active, it goes into it's cooldown for the full three posts regardless of how long it had been active.
