The Faunus Rights Revolution sent Tauriel's father into hiding and displaced her and her mother, this horrific series of events dominate Tauriel's earliest memories and deepest rest.
The segregation into labour camps was a constant fight to survive for her and her mother, her father's face hung in her every childhood dream. The war took away her childhood and put her into a life beyond her comprehension forcing her to quickly mature.
While these memories are hazy they do haunt her, shaping her and infuriating her.
As the war came to a resolution freedom embraced her and her mother like a long lost stranger. They found themselves looking for her father and to restart their lives and when they found him joy and relief swelled up in both females leading to the burning rage subsiding for a while.
Soon in this bubble of relief Tauriel found herself staring at her baby brother and sister, twins born when she was 11. A year later she was holding another younger sister; 3 shinning lights in a sea of dark childhood memories.
Once she was old enough her mother took up the responsibility of training Tauriel. She made it her mission to give Tauriel everything she could, teaching her to defend herself. Time breezed by as Tauriel found herself enthralled by her training. She learned about her heritage, her aura and dust. Her mother taught Tauriel everything she could and then began to prepare her for attending Shadow academy.
Tauriel's mother was deeply concerned by her daughters wild, reckless and angry heart. She dedicated the last few weeks with her daughter preparing her mentally for the academy and trying to teach her to control her emotions and her wild nature.
While the techniques her mother taught her served her well during her time at Shadow it only took one small thing to set Tauriel off. One day she witnessed a bully picking on a fellow student and her deep set anger exploded outwards leading to a ferocious fight between the two students.
Tauriel was severely reprimanded for her rash actions but in the long run it did not effect her studies and she still left the academy with high grades but the techniques her mother taught her were long forgotten.
Tauriel now had a life defining choice before her, the choice that would shape her into the woman she is today though she honestly did not know it at the time. She had to choose which senior academy she would apply for. Her mother urged her to leave Vacuo and go to Beacon, to explore and find someone who could help her find balance.
Tauriel in the end chose to stay in Vacuo and attend Shade, she was determined to use her emotions, to draw on them for strength and prove to her mother that she could control them without help. Little did she know her choice based on childish defiance to attend Shade would set her on a path to finding a second family and then walking the world alone...
When she joined the academy she was sorted into Team AQUA where she found herself learning and fighting beside a bizarre mix of people. The one who drew her attention the most was the mysterious boy named Yoru.
Despite her individualistic and wild nature she found herself very attached to her team mates. She began to view them as family. She became attached and showed a far softer side of herself to her team; expressing her loyalty and compassion behind closed doors but still remaining reckless, unpredictable and wild to the outside world.
Tauriel and team AQUA grew to find success after success, garnering the respect of many hunters and huntresses and impressing their instructors. Not only did she find success in AQUA but she also showed herself to be a talented solo combatant with her unpredictable and wild nature making it hard to combat her.
Her time with AQUA was when she earned the nickname Sparrow (In part due to her feathers). She earned the nickname because of her vigilance and flighty fighting style. She quickly revealed on missions that not only was she a light sleeper but she had grown to be exceptionally receptive and vigilant in her sleep reacting to almost all changes in the environment and alerting her team swiftly and quietly.
Team AQUA quickly showed they had strong synergy and this kept on growing, it was during their second year that Tauriel revealed just how vigilant she was. They were on a mission to join a hunter on a routine seek and destroy mission tracking a particularly troublesome pack of Grimm.
During the mission they were caught behind a raging sandstorm, the sandstorm was hampering their progress towards the mission site (little did they know it was also masking the movement of Grimm) and they were forced to make camp. Two days they spent settled in the camp and one night Tauriel drifted off to sleep during her watch out of boredom.
Despite drifting off to sleep the Grimm woke her before they were even within 50 feet of the camp, a change in the wind tickled Tauriel's sense with the scent and sound of the Grimm and she awoke rapidly, ready to fight the moment she hit her feet. The reaction speed and her sense saved them from her mistakes (she admitted to the team she fell asleep) and on multiple occassions her sense and vigilance saved them from trouble both of her making and not.
For the most part AQUA made it through their academy years smoothly, Tauriel did not actively hide she was a Faunus but she did keep the feathers hidden amongst her hair (preferring to maintain her distinctive look without them). While she never told her team mates she was Faunus they knew, it wasn't exactly a secret.
Team AQUA became her second family.
Graduation was arguably the best day of her life, she felt proud to stand beside her team and become free to choose her own path. she chose to follow her team. She revelled in their success and the freedom to choose what missions they wanted to do, they were beholden to none but themselves and their vows.
This freedom how ever became a bittersweet pill to swallow when Yoru decided it was time to go his own way. Her family was separating, while she could of stayed with her other team mates the spell was broken for her and she let her emotions get the better of her. She could not swallow the bitter sweet taste and she fled to go her own way.
During her time alone Tauriel began to study obscure combat techniques inspired by Yoru's secrets. Her studies lead her to a tome about a technique named threading. The technique piqued her interest. She found herself studying it, embracing it and creating her gauntlets and sleeves threading them with green dust and then threading her cloak with yellow dust. She began to refine her dust techniques to compliment her already erratic and wild fighting style.
Her travels took her to Vale where she found herself taking any contract that would put her in great danger, seeking the thrill of death defying battles and showing no regard for her own well being. All she wanted was the freedom and the thrill.
All of these solo missions how ever created a lonely feeling in the pit of her stomach, a need to be around those she loves like her team and her siblings. This feeling lead her to begin searching for her team and then the events of the Vytal festival smashed through her plans like a freight train.
Vale was thrown into turmoil and it fell upon the shoulders of the hunters and huntresses to work on stabilising the ruins of a kingdom. They fought long and hard against the Grimm, stemming the tide and pushing it back to free the kingdom from the clutches of darkness.
All this work took it's toll on Tauriel, already tired from being alone she found herself direly in need of rest and the kingdom's relative stability provided the perfect opportunity to not only rest but to try and find the other members of Team AQUA.
